Dear Parents/Guardians: 

 

There will be a 9th Grade Girls’ Workshop on September 15th.  During the school day this week your 8th grade daughter will have the opportunity to select four workshops, two of which she will attend.  The following are the workshops that will be offered.

 

Workshops

 

1. Building Healthy Relationships: A representative from the Sheriff’s Office will discuss teen dating and the prevention of violence

 

2. Prevention Plus – Mrs. Cochran will discuss “What are the dangers that confront you as your enter high school?”

 

3. So you want a job – Mr. Carson will give you ideas for how to successfully apply for a job.

 

4. Children of parents who were born in another country - Mrs. Tadley will have a discussion regarding the difficulties of being a “first generation” American.

 

5. She said, He said - Mrs. Roman will lead a workshop on gossip, social networking, and communication for teens.

 

6.  Being Comfortable in Your Own Skin: Tattoos, Tans, Blemish control, and Makeup – Mrs. Williams will provide guidelines, information, and tips for a beautiful you now and 50 years from now.

 

7. Fitness for a teenage girl – Ms. Pagan will discuss what “fitness” means and  how to stay fit.

 

8. Self-esteem – Ms. Spero and Ms Caputo will host a discussion regarding self- esteem.

 

9. Building Bonds – Mrs. Goolsby and Mrs. Ramos will address issues that teen girls face, such as, cliques, gossip, rumors, negative judgments, teasing, harassment, isolation, stereotypes, racism, sexism, bullying, violence, hidden pressures to create an image, achieve or live up to the expectations of others.

 

10. What are you expected to do? - Mrs. Kull’s and Mrs. Aziz’s presentation will involve current awareness of the expectations regarding teen behavior with adults and peers.

 

11. Team Building- Mrs. Grottini will work with you to learn how to build team effectiveness.  A “hands on” experience.

 

12. National Honor Society  - National Honor Society students will share with you their secrets of how they prepared themselves for membership in the National Honor Society.

 

13. Teen Pep – Junior and senior students who are part of Teen Pep help you to understand Your Body Image.
