BURLINGTON TOWNSHIP POLICE DEPARMENT

CITIZEN’S POLICE ACADEMY

Burlington Township Police Department invites Senior High School Students who live in Burlington Township to participate in our Citizen Police Academy. Classes will begin Wednesday, September 21, 2011, and will continue each Wednesday night for 9 weeks until graduation on November 16, 2011.  Classes will begin at 6 PM and will conclude by 9 PM.

The purpose of the Citizen Police Academy is to further foster a spirit of cooperation and understanding between the community and the police department. The academy will provide citizens of Burlington Township with an opportunity to learn about their police department, the department’s mission, and duties performed by the officers. Community participants will gain insight into law enforcement’s role in the criminal justice system and daily work of our police officers. It is hoped that increasing the community awareness will challenge some of the myths and images of law enforcement and provide a realistic view of police procedures.

Class will be hands-on and topics covered will include basic criminal law, search and seizure, patrol tactics, crime scene investigations, traffic safety unit, motor vehicle crash investigation, gang awareness, and demonstrations from the Special Response Team (SRT), Police K-9, and firearms unit.
