What is the difference between collaborative class and the other fourth grade classes? Are all special ed. students assigned only to the collaborative class or they are distributed equally to the other classes?
Collaborative classes are considered inclusion classes. By that, I mean regular education students and special education students are combined in one classroom (with the number of special education students being much less than regular education). For this reason, collaborative classrooms have two teachers, one regular education teacher and one special education teacher. Most special education students are assigned to the collaborative classrooms. However, there are some students receiving resource room services (not in collaborative classrooms) for language arts or mathematics who are pulled out of the regular classroom for these services. Also, there is a group of special education students who are totally self-contained.

What information do I need to bring to the school to register my son for third grade?

To register a student we need a copy of their shot record, a copy of the birth certificate and a transfer card from their previous school. If the school does not provide a transfer card we would need a copy of their report card. We also need proof of residency (utility bill, deed, mortgage papers, settlement papers, tax bill, licenses).

If they are living in an apartment we would need a form we provide to them filled out by the landlord listing the people living in the apartment. If they are living in the township with another person we have an affidavit that states they are residing with another person ,they must get that notarized before registering. We will also need proof of residency from the person they are residing with.

What does a demerit for my child mean?

From page 22 of the Parent / Student Handbook,

Demerits may be assigned by any staff member observing inappropriate behavior.  Demerits may be received for the following reasons:
* Hallway behavior - running, shouting, roaming halls, disturbing other classes and/or offices.
* Fire drill behavior - running, talking, pushing, out of line.
* Cafeteria behavior - disrespect to school personnel, disobeying cafeteria rules.
* Playground behavior - disrespect to school personnel, disobeying playground rules.
* Classroom behavior - disrespect to school personnel, disobeying classroom rules.
* Other behavior considered inappropriate.

A child who receives a demerit is assigned 1 discipline point.  Discipline points are accumulated over the course of the school year.  Children that receive 12 or more discipline points become ineligible for certain school events and trips.  However, students are able to "redeem" discipline points by going one calendar month from the time of the last infraction without being assigned any additional disciplinary points (demerits, lunch detentions, after-school detentions, and in-school/out-of-school detentions).  With each month without additional points, a point is redeemed.
